7x15 now has over 25,000 characters and basic Japanese support,  just in time for BitSummit! 

Basic Japanese support in this case means representation of all 2,136 Joyo (Regular Use) characters. This collection of characters has been designated by the Japanese Ministry of Education to be taught in grades 7-9 and are enough for a rudimentary level of literacy in Japanese. With the exception of names of people and places, they cover the vast majority of characters needed on a day-to-day basis. 

Over time, I'd like to continue adding the remaining CJK characters, there are currently about 35,000 left to do. At my current pace, this will take years, but I'm working on a system to get them produced more quickly. 

There is one caveat to this "basic" support. I haven't yet had time to create the Japanese, Korea, or Vietnamese variants for these characters, and so they're all in a Chinese form. Luckily, due to the reduced resolution of each character, I estimate 70-80% of the characters in the font can pass for characters of any of these languages. Over time, for the remaining 20-30% I'll add variants to the font, but this too, will take time.

That said, I believe that this font will be usable as-is from now on for Japanese. Meanwhile, if there are any characters that anyone needs, new or variant, please drop a request, and I'll make sure to prioritize those over others.
